Whitney Reflections

A tribute to the early settlers of a western Nebraska village

SCHOOL TO OPEN MONDAY

The Whitney school will open Monday, September 1.  It is very important that there be as little delay in starting children as possible.  During the first weeks, teachers will proceed rather slowly in order that pupils may accustom themselves to changed conditions from their summer freedom.  Pupils coming in late miss this special preparatory period.  In high school new subjects are being taken up to which the pupils need a special period if introduction; hence, on coming in late, this special work is missed, as well as the subject matter itself.  A class cannot be delayed for the late comers.

It is desired that as far as possible all pupils enroll Monday, and get lesson assignments.  This will not take long after which they may return for there will be no study.  If the services of the older pupils be especially needed at home, failure to be present Monday will not be counted against them.

The twelvth grade is to be added in the high school, making it necessary for the intermediate grades to remain with the eighth grade and the fourth grade in the primary room.

Everything possible will be done in order that every pupil entering may finish the year’s work creditably, but very few pupils can do the work required in less than nine months, therefore may we not have them all the time and on time?
