Transmission Line Installed Last Summer In Operation - NO CHANGE HERE
Chadron is now lighting the neighboring towns of Crawford and Whitney as the result of the installation of a power transmission line by the Western Public Service company last summer. The power was turned on at Crawford late in November and at Whitney last week.
Since Whitney is not incorporated, the same provisions of the company that apply to Chadron customers also apply at Whitney. Although power for lighting the city is supplied by the Chadron plant under the new plan of operation, the Crawford plant is being retained for emergency and heating purposes, according to Manager Libby of this city.
For several months past, the Western Public Service company has been carrying on construction activities in Chadron for the purpose of adequately handling the increased burden of lighting Whitney and Crawford. Total improvements made to the plant last summer totaled $35,000. This included the installation of a new turbine, costing 35,000. The power capacity of the Chadron plant was practically doubled by improvements made during the past summer
The transmission line installed last summer is thirty miles in length and the cost of installation was $45,000. In addition to lighting Crawford and Whitney, the transmission line will also enable the company to supply lighting facilities to rural subscribers.
According to Chadron officials of the company, the plan is purely an economic measure in the interests of better and cheaper service for customers in both Whitney and Crawford. They state that the plan will enable them to reduce rates in both of the towns affected. The plan will bring about no change in the Chadron service.
