TO ENLARGE WHITNEY WATERWORKS

PROMOTERS CONFIDENT OF LARGE WATER SUPPLY

WATER IN GREAT DEMAND AS SUPPLY RUNS SHORT

At a special meeting called last Saturday by the Board of Directors of the Whitney water system it was unanimously voted to enlarge the water supply.

For many years past the present system had been sufficient, but since many more people have come to our town, the water supply is inadequate. It was planned by the promoters to sink a test well some hundred feet to the south of the present wells and if a sufficient supply of water was found, a large well would be dug at that point.  Then the water would be piped under the river to the wells on this side.  In addition to this a dam will be placed in the river, which will give an additional supply.

In case this movement failed and an insufficient supply is found, water will be piped from the bed of the river thru a large pipe filter with sand and gravel and other ingrediences used for that purpose.  This last act would do away entirely with water shortage, but will only be used in case an adequate supply cannot be found in the test well.

This is about the proposition our town is up against at present, but our worry will son be over, for in case the former fails the latter is a certainty.  However, a number of men are now at work on the project and Whitney will soon have an abundant supply of good, pure water for all purposes.
