Whitney Reflections

A tribute to the early settlers of a western Nebraska village

In its very early years, Whitney had two newspapers:  The Whitney Champion was a Republican paper edited by A. G. Shears; the Whitney Times, a Democrat publication, was edited by M. Bisbee. Both newspapers flourished when land notices were plentiful, but they hit upon hard times when the boom ended. By 1923, J. M. Kline was Editor/Publisher of the only remaining paper, The Dawes County News.  Thanks to Jim & Naomi McCafferty of Whitney for giving us access to several  old newspapers -- including school newspapers --  from the 1920s.
